U.S. Customs and Border ProtectionPHILADELPHIA – U.S. Customs and Border Protection has deployed its updated Global Entry® arrival processing experience at Philadelphia International Airport, the first airport to implement the new process.
The process uses cameras with biometric facial comparison technology to verify Global Entry members’ identities and membership status as they enter the Global Entry processing area. The technology replaces the previous user-operated kiosk process, through which members answered customs declaration questions upon arrival.
The updated process is designed to strengthen identity verification, streamline traveler flow, improve processing efficiency, and support CBP’s enforcement and security mission.
PHL airport became the first to deploy the process on Oct. 13. CBP expects to expand the Global Entry arrival processing experience to as many as 38 airport terminals at 30 high-volume airports, including some CBP Preclearance locations.
Global Entry is a CBP Trusted Traveler Program that provides expedited clearance for pre-approved, low-risk travelers arriving in the United States. All applicants undergo rigorous background checks and an in-person interview before enrollment. As of Oct. 1, 2026, Global Entry had 15.6 million active members.
“This improved process for Global Entry members reflects Customs and Border Protection’s continued efforts to process travelers more efficiently, enhance the international arrivals experience, and strengthen our nation’s security,” said Elliot N. Ortiz, CBP’s area port director in Philadelphia.
Global Entry members may also continue to use the Trusted Traveler mobile application (at participating locations) to report their arrival into the United States and submit a customs declaration. The mobile application also allows members to manage memberships, including submitting initial applications, renewing membership, updating personal information and travel documents, scheduling enrollment interviews, and more.
CBP's border security mission is led at our nation’s Ports of Entry by CBP officers and agriculture specialists from the Office of Field Operations. CBP screens international travelers and cargo for illicit narcotics, unreported currency, weapons, and other prohibited items that threaten public safety and our nation’s economic vitality.
